Call for papers

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to the 8th Annual Conference of EATSA (Euro-Asia Tourism Studies Association) organised in association with the National Multidisciplinary Laboratory for Climate Change. The conference is taking place in two cities of Hungary: Veszprém, the 2023 European Capital of Culture, and Budapest, the national capital, between 4-8 July 2022. The central theme of the conference is the Renaissance of Culture in Asia and Europe. The EATSA 2022 Conference offers a worldwide forum for attendees from academia and industry to actively exchange, share, and challenge ideas and research on travel and tourism hospitality and recreation.

The tourism industry has faced an unprecedented crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic that has affected significantly demand patterns, and forced destinations and industry representatives to rethink their operational practices and development plans. National and local cultures will play an important role in the reconstruction of tourism, both in the broadest sense as the cultural environment that determines collaboration, competition, development priorities and the definition of success, and in a narrower interpretation that focuses on cultural tourism, one of the major products in global tourism. The central theme of the conference, Renaissance of Culture in Asia and Europe, underlines the significance of understanding the complexity of cultural factors that influence every single aspect of tourism development, while highlights the unique role of cultural and heritage tourism in the post-Covid 19 era. The convergence of tourism and culture, and visitors’ increasing interest in cultural experiences create great opportunities, but also major challenges for the tourism sector.

The conference also features world class keynote speakers such as Shuji Kogi Secretary General of EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee, European Capital of Culture benefactor, Prof. Desmond Lee from CBS International Business School, Academic Programme Manager of International Tourism Management, Tourism Management expert, etc.

Full papers will be published in an online conference proceeding. There is also a possibility for publication in the EATSJ – Euro-Asia Tourism Studies Journal, an open access journal, to help promote researchers to publish their work. All papers will be double-blind peer reviewed.

Fees

We have endeavoured to guarantee the highest quality standards at minimum cost. Hence, we took into consideration the suggestions received during the last conference; that we needed to facilitate and encourage scholars from countries with a lower per capita gross domestic product. For EASTA 2022 conference and beyond, we have developed a more equitable conference fee structure, with a discount system based on the gross domestic product per capita (based on 2018 World Development Indicators published by the International Monetary Fund).

Journal

The aim of the EATSJ is to provide a platform to promote our junior European and Asian researchers. It is an Open Access Journal, whose key purpose, is to encourage Early Career Researchers (ECR), PhD and Masters Candidates to publish their research outcomes. It also provides an opportunity for ECRs to manage the editorial board, supported and mentored by our member advisory senior academics. We encourage all aspiring authors to submit their research work for consideration. Our capable editorial board will provide help and support to ease any publication challenges. In this way, our commitment is to assist a new generation of European and Asian tourism researchers to realise their publication potentials.
